I had tried to get to Hamm Tun Fine Foods a couple of times. Unfortunately I had a bit of trouble finding it the first time I went, then on my second try it was closed. Ah well. Third time lucky – I found it and it was open, and even better there was a parking space right outside the shop. Fantastic!
The shop is in a very pleasant Northamptonshire village – well worth the 10 minute drive off the M1 – lots of lovely villages, rolling fields and canals on the way there. The shop itself is a small but perfectly formed affair. There is a wide variety of artisan goods available in the shop. But I was there just for their cheese. More specifically, just for the cheese that they make. I wanted THIERS and no-one elses cheese. What I wanted was …. COBBLERS NIBBLE.
No Cobblers Nibble
….Unfortunately they didn’t have any. After weeks of building up anticipation for Cobblers Nibble they didn’t have any at all! Oh no! What’s a courier driver to do without Cobblers Nibble? Better try something else then I guess.
The very helpful lady behind the counter pointed me in the direction of two other cheeses that Hamm Tun produce – one of which is Shoetown Blue.
Shoetown Blue (soft and squidgy)
Let’s try that then.
A small, perfectly formed cheese. Soft and squidy. I wasn’t expecting much from this cheese as it don’t seem to be marketed or pushed quite as much compared to Cobblers Nibble. So it was with surprise that I really liked it!
Creamy and a very SMOOOOOTH texture with mild hints of blue. A spreadable blue. A must try. I will be stopping by for more … and hopefully some Cobblers Nibble when it is back in stock.
