I originally went to Leesons butchers for the Stilton topped pork pie. But due to a mix up (probably because I was chatting too much) I got the ordinary pork pie.
Did I just say ‘ordinary’? Ordinary? It was anything but ordinary. I SHOULD have said ‘EXTRAORDINARY’.
The Pie
They are PRIZE WINNING pies don-cha-know. 1st prize apparently. And you can certainly see (taste) why.
Lightly spiced meat encased in a perfectly cooked pastry covering with the right amount of jelly surrounding the meat in the casing. Beautiful. BUT, Pack Man disagrees with me – he thinks there is a little too much jelly.
As usual, I started taste testing the pie meaning to only have a small portion to try out. As usual I ended up eating half the pie in one sitting – Mrs Van Man ate the other half…in one sitting at the same time as me.
It is a good size pork pie as well – the medium size was all we needed (we did also have some Stilton cheese and blue Shropshire with it though).
I think Mr & Mrs Pack Man also did the same – approval from both members of the Packing Team.
Will I be buying this pork pie again? Both Pack Man and I agree that stopping at Leesons Butchers next time I am going down (or up) the A1 I WILL be making a small detour and WILL be stopping for more pork pies!
