Huntsman Cheese from Long Clawson Dairy

There are 2 prices for anything you buy from the factory shop which makes things very simple. And also cheap!

Having looked at their website and got the address for this cheese maker I was a little disconcerted by what I found when I arrived.

The address was somewhere in the middle of the countryside so I was expecting a quaint, traditional dairy farm/cheese maker. What I got was a slick, clean, large, modern, professional factory-scale dairy/cheesery. I was hesitant to make my way down the road to the factory as it seemed like the road was made only for lorries to go into the factory, however the A frame sign at the entrance reassured me there was in fact a shop at the end of the road as well.

I’m glad I went in. What a great factory shop – all the types of cheese they sell in all the different sizes. A deli style counter and lots of people to help (which was lucky as when I visited in late December there were LOTS of people making use of the shop).

There are two prices for anything you buy from the factory shop which makes things very simple .. and also very cheap! It’s £10/kilo for the traditional cheeses such as Stilton, and £8.50 for the blended cheese such as the Huntsman. I was astonished at the price for all the different cheeses I bought for Pack Man and me to try – it was real value for money.

Huntsman Cheese

This review is for the Huntsman cheese.

Pack Man Says: Absolutely BANGING!! Worth the Van Mans time. It didn’t last long at all – I’m not great with words so all I CAN say is – if you don’t try it it’s YOUR loss … and more for me.

Van Man Says: I thought this was a GREAT idea, combining blue stilton with double gloucester. And it does work well. The double gloucester has a somewhat dampening effect on the strong stilton taste making the whole taste milder. The melange has a satisfying consistency and a well rounded taste. I did try it on a burger (as depicted on their recipe page) but I’m not sure it worked very well for me – maybe it was the burgers I used. I suspect it may make very good posh ‘cheese on toast’ though.

Huntsman Cheese Long Clawson Dairy

A great idea combining blue stilton and double gloucester.
A great tasting, easy to eat cheese as part of a cheese board or just on its own. Can be used in cooking as well.
